what you can see here is the format for thefront framework of the tv stand, and the design incorporates two glass doors and three drawers.now when you're preparing these work pieces, ensure all the lengths are identical, to ensurewhen you put it together, everything is square and true. now, this is particularly true ofthe drawer sections. you must ensure these rails are perpendicular to the vertical stiles, and with dowelmax we have a way of ensuring that. there's two methods. the one i preferis you take these two vertical stiles, and you rotate them outward and put them togetherlike that. now we get them absolutely flush. insert them in the vise. that's perfect. wetake our square. now these drawers are all five and three quarter inches in depth, sowe make sure this is flush, these are identical
lengths, so both ends are flush. come downfive and three quarter inches, and draw a line across both. that ensures when you putthe drawer rails on they're going to be identical. now you come down anotherinch and a half, and another five and three quarters, and you do the same thing all overagain. now, once you've done that..now we want to ensure we put the drill bores in theproper place. we usually put x's on this side. it's not so important with the short pieces, with the long pieces sometimes you can get confused, and you can drill the holes in thewrong side of the line so, we put the x's on this side here, here and here. now to startwith, we always mark our work pieces. now this one here, since we've got four, we want to differentiate,we don't just put a check mark, we put check
mark one, check mark one, check mark two, two, three, three, four, four, etc, etc. now, take our first drawer stile, insert it inthe vise, take dowelmax, now remember with dowelmax there's machined check marks here, here and here. the check mark is there, the x's are here. so this check mark goes to thatone, you bring your dowelmax up to the line, try and center it on the line, clamp yourdowelmax and drill the first two holes. when you've completed that, move downto the next one, put it to the center of the line, clamp your dowelmax, one, two again.and you do the same with the other drawer stile. now for the drawer rail, i've alreadydrilled these to save time, and not to bore you to death. so again the check mark is hereand here. now this check mark goes to there,
and you line it on this one here, againstthe edge, check mark to check mark. tighten it, make sure it's flush, and drill throughguides one and two. these joints will finish up within thousandths of an inch, and that'swhere you create the strength. ones goes to one. now i'm going to drill this drawer stile, three, so put that on here like this, take your dowelmax, now your check mark is here, your x's are here, and here's your alignment marks. the check mark which is machined here, goes to this one, bring it up to the line. try and disect the line. the drill depth isset at three quarters of an inch. we're against the line here, so we drill through guidesone and two. now as you can see if you were doing a mortise and tenon for all these fourjoints, it would certainly take a lot longer
than that. these dowel joints are a two anda half minute process. whereas a mortise and tenon could take you anywhere from twentyminutes upwards. we'll dry fit the joints. make sure your joint numbers all correspond, although it probably doesn't matter because they're all identical anyways. now its guaranteedthis dowel joint arrangement with two dowels on a one by two, is actually stronger thanthe wood itself. that's our guarantee. you can't get any stronger than the wood. thereyou are. that framework section should be pretty much perfect, and it is, as you cansee.
